The RoadPeace Challenge

The RoadPeace Challenge is an annual awareness-raising and fundraising week of action that takes place in May during UN Global Road Safety Week. Now in its fifth year, the event has already raised £160,000 for RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, as well as considerable public awareness around road harm.

RoadPeace Challenge 2025 – 1,624 Miles for 1,624 Lives

This year’s challenge will take place on May 12-18, 2025 during the UN Global Road Safety Week.

1,624 people were killed on UK roads according to statistics released in 2024. That’s 1,624 families left shattered, grieving, and forever changed. We’re calling on you to walk, run, or cycle to honour lives taken, support bereaved families, and fight for safer roads. Together, we will cover 1,624 miles—one mile for every life taken—sending a powerful message that every life matters.

7 Days, 7 Services – Why This Challenge Matters

Each day of the challenge highlights a critical RoadPeace support service, showing how your participation and fundraising directly help victims’ families:

May 12 – Helpline – The first call, the first step for families in crisis.
May 13 – Regional Groups – A space for those who’ve lost loved ones to find strength in each other.
May 14 – National Advocacy – Fighting for victims’ rights and road safety policy changes.
May 15 – Resilience Building – Helping families navigate the long road to healing.
May 16 – Befrienders – A lifeline of support from those who’ve been through the same loss.
May 17 – Justice & Accountability – Supporting families through legal battles for fair outcomes.
May 18 – Remembrance – A time to honour, reflect, and never forget those lost.

Each mile you cover is a tribute, a step toward justice, and a call for safer roads.

Howard Jones, CEO of RoadPeace

  • Log in to or create your JustGiving account
  • Go to the main RoadPeace Challenge campaign page here
  • Click the orange ‘Start Fundraising’ button
  • Fill in the details that are requested. At the ‘Are you taking part in an activity?’ stage, only select ‘I’m taking part in an event’ if you are participating in a group activity that already has a fundraising page set up for it. You will then be prompted to choose the event from the JustGiving database. Otherwise, select ‘I’m doing my own activity’
  • We suggest using the Challenge cover photo as the page cover
  • Once you are happy with the details, launch the page
  • If you have any problems setting up your page, please get in touch with us at info@roadpeace.org

Throughout the RoadPeace Challenge week of action – May 12-18, 2025 – emergency services, safer roads partnerships, schools, businesses and communities will be running, cycling, walking or horse riding 1,624 miles to honour the 1,624 people reported killed on UK roads.

All participants are urged to log their miles covered throughout the week via the form below. We will be counting down from 1,624 to zero miles to reflect our Vision Zero efforts – the aspiration to eliminate road deaths.

Note: Miles should be recorded per person. Eg: A team of 5 people walking 5 miles should log 25 miles. People can record their mileage individually or as a collective figure on behalf of a team. Please update your mileage as frequently as possible throughout the week so that we can keep our mileage counter up-to-date. And lastly, good luck and thank you!
