RoadPeace Featured Campaigns
RoadPeace campaigns for a fairer justice system, safer roads, and better protection for victims and bereaved families.
Our featured campaigns focus where change is urgently needed and where our evidence, partnerships, and the voices of bereaved families can make the greatest change. Each campaign combines data, legal expertise, policy analysis, and lived experience to push for reforms that save lives and deliver justice. Below are the key campaigns we are currently driving forward.
Bereavement Damages
Bereavement compensation in the UK is inconsistent and unfair, with the level of support varying depending on where a crash occurs and who is entitled to claim. RoadPeace is campaigning for reform so that all bereaved families are treated equally and compassionately across the country. Drawing on legal panel expertise, family case studies, and comparative reviews of how other nations handle bereavement damages, we are working in partnership with APIL, legal firms, and justice charities to push for a modern, equitable system that reflects the true impact of road death.
Leaving the Scene (Hit-and Run / Remain & Report
Drivers who flee the scene of a fatal or serious collision cause families significant additional trauma and undermine justice. Penalties are often inadequate, reporting systems are inconsistent, and monitoring is weak. RoadPeace is leading a national push for stronger accountability through tougher penalties, improved police oversight, and reform of the Remain & Report laws. Backed by Aeron-Thomas research, police monitoring data, and powerful victim testimony, this campaign is supported by partner organisations including Brake, the AA, and several MPs.
Disqualifications & Interim Bans - Immediate Driving Bans
Immediate driving bans are a vital deterrent for dangerous and high-risk driving, yet current policy is inconsistent and leaves the public exposed to preventable harm. RoadPeace is leading a campaign to strengthen the use of interim disqualifications so dangerous drivers are kept off the road while cases progress through the justice system. Supported by justice surveys, police input, and extensive victim testimony, this campaign highlights the urgent need for reforms that protect the public and uphold the seriousness of driving offences.
Progressive Licensing
Novice drivers face significantly higher crash risks, yet the UK lags behind countries that have successfully reduced road deaths through progressive licensing. RoadPeace supports a phased approach such as limits on passengers, night-time driving, and early-stage restrictions to reduce risk and save lives. This campaign is led by Protect Young Drivers, who coordinate the policy and public advocacy. For more information or to get involved, visit Protect Young Drivers.
